The quest to rescue sky whales continues for the Smog Rats across the continents. The crew are reunited together aboard the Nightjar when an invitation arrives from the Emerald King in the Northern continent. Their presence is requested for the Spring Equinox at the Glacial Palace. Parr knows this is an opportunity to form a treaty and an alliance with the Feln, or ice bears.
Heading North, the crew encounter new friends, foe and dangers. Zeina and Jackson stick together through thick and thin and they have suspicions about who is writing for the Smog Scoop, the newspaper for followers of The Smog Rats. While the newspaper reports the truth, it is certainly someone with inside knowledge- but who?
When a series of events injure some of the crew, the rest are thrust into danger and must escape across the frozen land to find help, but they will also make some shocking discoveries and meet some familiar faces.
This is an exciting and adventurous tale, proving Zeina’s worth as a main character with her determination, loyalty and willingness to sacrifice for her friends and family. She and her dad continue to be innovative and inventive and this is such a big part of who Zeina is.
I loved picking up this sequel knowing I was back with Zeina, Jackson, Shrapnel, Sparks and the other amazing Smog Rats so it may be no surprise that I read this in one glorious uninterrupted sitting and it was the best start to my day.
