Nowhere Island Blog Tour

This was a surprising story, one with an ending that I did not see coming. Gil has been passed around foster homes for years, never feeling as though he belongs or is wanted. When the opportunity comes to run away, he takes it. Feeling slightly bad about leaving, he knows he will never be happy as an unwelcome member of someone else’s family. He craves finding his home on his terms.

When his backpack gets stolen, he chases the kid and finds a whole new world! Two brothers are camping and living in an abandoned patch of world behind a busy motorway. They allow Gil to stay and over time, they form a pseudo-family. One that protects itself, takes care of each other and shares equally. They also forge a friendship with another girl living nearby.

As you read, you realise how complex each character’s story is. From abuse to cults to grief, each person has their own demons to overcome but somehow these four children build a family. When this family is threatened, and in a big way, they must make some bold decisions- ones that took me by surprise.

This is a brilliant story of adventure and survival, friendship and family. It’s a heartwarming tale, one that I felt completely immersed within.
