Wings of Glory by Dermot O’Leary

There is always a fascination with animals taking on roles to help humans and this is a rather brilliant story about birds and dog fighting in the skies amongst the RAF and Germans.

Ava and Linus, Swift siblings, sign up for active duty when a call for help comes from the Allies. Linus is super fast but a bit impetuous and spontaneous. On their arrival in England, the pair spot an enemy plane and Linus immediately acts without consulting his sister.

Unable to find Ava, Linus is devastated but determined to do her proud by joining his dream crew of the RBF. He has much to learn and has made some epic mistakes already but he has a huge heart and belief in fighting the enemy.

I really enjoyed Dermot’s Toto series and when this arrived, a fellow blogger had recently read and recommended it. I decided to take a chance and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Short and accessible for a variety of ages, it will ensure children have a different perspective on the war.
