The Thief of Farrowfell by Ravena Guron

Publishing in May with Faber

Jude is a thief intent on proving her worth to her family. Deemed too young to be a true Ripon, Jude is often ignored, forgotten or bossed about. When she finds a heist she can do solo, she leaps at the chance and may finally prove to her Grandfather, the Grandleader, that she is worthy, ready and perfect for future family heists.

What Jude steals is actually cursed and so she must now make amends to stop all the bad things happening to her family. She needs to apologise to the family she stole from but discovers the parents have been missing for a year and so the curse cannot be broken. Meeting the children, Eri and Fin, Jude decides to help them find their missing parents. Not out of kindness but to stop the curse!

Being from a thieving family, Jude is not used to working as a team or for the good of someone else and she must navigate these strange new feelings of friendship and loyalty. There are plenty of twists within the plot that keep the reader guessing and surprised when they turn the corner into a plot twist. I love it when I am caught unawares of the twists and find myself even more invested in the story.

There are monsters created out of raw magic as well as monsters living in the Ripon household. It will come down to Jude and sister, Moorley to put things right, and it may be that one will need to make a greater sacrifice to ensure their safety.

Brilliantly told and with an incredible cast of characters I was completely blown away. I would love a sequel of this….with the Ripon sisters in business for themselves!
