It’s time to share my review as part of the blog tour for this fantastic new book, the first in a series set at Henry Bigg Academy.

Read in one sitting, I was completely gripped by Lola’s story. My daughter is now in Year 8 but I firmly remember the traumas and dramas of year 7. My son, now in Y10, didn’t have the same struggles as she did so I wasn’t prepared for the angst. Luckily, time does it’s tricks and things work out but Year 7 can be tough.
Lola and Evie are primary school besties and are determined to spend secondary school as besties. When they are put in different form groups, they know it will be hard to be apart. The first few days are ok, meeting for lunch, walking together and sharing timetables. When Evie invites Cleo to have lunch with them, things take a nose dive for Lola.
Jealousy, anger, hurt…so many emotions tear through Lola and her friendship with Evie. It all becomes a bit too much and with things at home just as tumultuous, Lola struggles. Her parents are divorced and she must move to a smaller house but nothing seems to be going her way.
I loved Lola and could understand her struggles. I hope throughout the series that we get to see a bit more about Evie and Cleo, not to mention Daniel, the boy who teases Lola daily.
This first in a new series is relatable, true and gripping. I would recommend this to anyone leaving primary school and those in year 7 and 8. It may help that adjustment period.
