From the first line of this story through to the end, the reader is gripped in this clever and macabre dual narrative. Ned, a gravedigger with his Grandfather, and Obedience, a girl with innate curiosity and a mind for science.
As the story weaves, we learn more about Ned, Obedience and their families- their defiance of common perceptions and desire for more out of life.
Ned and his grandfather protect the graves and allow the dead to rest in peace but someone is causing problems- in the name of science or something more sinister? That will be left for the reader to discover.
Utterly compelling, this historical story is set in a time where women did not study or attend higher education. It is set in a time where class is critical and unwavering. There is so much to take from reading this story and I dare anyone to be able to put it down!
A brilliant story, ideal for older readers and it can be quite dark!
