Well, it was always going to be a cracking read but this blew me away. From the adventure seeking Ember on page one through to the very end, making considerable discoveries and finding adventure around every corner.
Abi has this innate talent of writing stories that appeal to those who may not, at first glance, look up to the challenge of being thrust into an adventure but who discover they are braver, stronger and more capable than they knew.
What I have always loved about Abi’s books are the character and place names. We have Ember Spark and Arno Whisper, our two unlikely heroes. They live in Yawn and often see their neighbour Monotonous Plod walking in town. There is also Rusty Fizzbang, the vet for magical beasts, someone who needs their help desperately.
From hungry hippogriffs, to baby dragons and unicorns as well, this story has all the magical makings of a favourite new series. There are lessons to be learned, friendships to be forged and creatures to save!
I loved every word on every page and I am so thrilled to see there is a second coming next October!
