“Club Loser always better together” is a fitting way to end book 5 of the Dread Wood series. A series I cannot get enough of, though it sometimes terrifies me down to my toes. Angelo, Gus, Naira, Hallie and Colette form Club Loser and have been through five pretty epic and horrifying battles with the Latchitt’s, Colette’s insane grandparents.
When Club Loser are dropped off at Neon Perch to celebrate Colette’s birthday, the group are excited to have an all expenses paid trip to the best place in town. They enjoy go karting, plenty of food and arcade games before heading to the Escape Room in the basement.
In the lift to begin the game properly, Angelo believes he sees the Latchitt’s but dismisses this as he knows they are locked up. He is also sure there were 6 people in the lift, when there are only 5 of them. As they play each locked room, their suspicions are heightened and their fear properly kicks in and they realise they are playing for their lives, yet again.
This time, they await the creation and song of the Latchitt’s and try to think clearly about how to escape and contact the outside world. As terrifying as their encounter is, this group of pre-teens, work together, fight hard and sacrifice more than they should. Admirable, strong and defiant in their fight against this enemy.
This series is so epic and Club Loser is a club we all want to join and if Gus could please make a badge for me too, I would be over the moon. Love these characters and still discovering who can be trusted!
Also still have a soft spot for Mr C and his ways of trying to be down with the kids!
More Club Loser please!
