It’s been a while since I drafted a Picture Book Perfect! Thought the selection here was very worthy of shouting about!
Wild Book Day by Karl Newson and James Brown, Published by Owlet Press
With World Book Day just under a month away, this is the perfect book to plan to read aloud. It is a joyous, raucous adventure with books leading the way. All of the characters spill out, take flight and explore as the reader watches and scans every page for details. Entirely delightful, this is a book that celebrates reading and books for all ages. It rhymes and each page is beautifully illustrated making it a wonder to behold. Designed to work alongside World Book Day, the team behind this story know the value of reading and sharing books.
One Goose Two Moose by Kael Tudor and Nicola Slater, Published by Scholastic
Hilarious and riotous, this will become a fast favourite for bedtimes. Lining up for ice cream seems a simple task but somehow the moose and goose lines are mixed up and no amount of counting seems to be solving the problem. Trusty Simon, the slightly grumpy line manager just wants order but chaos seems the order of the day. As you read, you can almost get into a rhythm of counting moose and goose until….one or the other pops up. Brilliantly funny and one I had been looking forward to for a long time!
This Book is full of Unicorns by Gareth Peter and Mike Byrne, Published by Scholastic
Unicorn fans need look no further than this story for spotting real unicorns in the wild. It’s a fun and silly romp through favourite places for unicorns, including the fun fair, museums and hospitals. Will you spot all the unicorns as you read through? The illustrations are bright, bold and colourful and add to the charm of the story. This is a follow on story from This Book is full of elves. An excellent pairing of author and illustrator, I can only hope for more books full of fascinating and fun characters!
The Bunny who came to Breakfast by Rachael Davis and Mike Byrne, Published by Scholastic
Can you imagine if the cutest bunny ever came for a visit? What would the day look like? Well, dive into this story and you will get an adorable glimpse into the huge amount of food, activity and energy that they would bring. Luckily, the family have plenty to offer and an “egg-citing” day is had by all. Cheerful and charming, both text and illustration leap off the page and young readers will love this story!
Chicken Little and the very long race by Sam Wedelich, Published by Scholastic Press
This funny and witty book is the third in the series of Chicken Little stories and is as charming as the first two. In this take on the classic race of the turtle and the hare, Chicken Little finds herself signing up to a race. As the other chickens find themselves falling for hare’s propaganda, Chicken Little figures out how to do this her own way. Told with humour, that both young and old will appreciate, this is a brilliant twist on a well known fable.
