Bira
Bira is a young boy from the undiscovered Amazon tribe in our story. His experience is key to the whole book and really the inspiration behind it. He has lived his life in peace and harmony in the forest but is suddenly brought face to face with the modern world and the threat it poses to his family.
Jess Rayworth
Jess is a 14-year-old girl with a hardened attitude to life due to the strange disappearance of her parents one stormy night some years earlier. She is tough, physical and brave. She is devoted to her younger brother and determined to discover the truth about their parents.
Jack Rayworth
Jack is 11 and full of fun and interest in the world around him. He is prone to drifting off and examining things in depth. He is extremely smart and gifted at maths and other school subjects. He seems to be perpetually happy as if his parents’ disappearance hasn’t affected him at all.
Dr Vanessa Varnish
Vanessa Varnish is Head Teacher at Hilltop Academy. She is an imposing figure. Tall and athletic with bright red hair and green eyes she is frightening in many respects but has a deep character that can provide warmth and kindness when needed.
Vincent (Vinnie) Varnish
Son of Dr Varnish, Vinnie is a little older and more experienced than the Rayworth children. He remains calm in difficult situations and is always devoted to the completion of any mission the GDA send him on.
Hetty Parks
Hetty starts school at the same time and in the same year as Jess and they instantly become friends. Whilst Hetty is a little reluctant she always plucks up the courage to leap when she needs to.
Miss Wilhelmina Granville
Miss Granville is one of the more colourful teachers at Hilltop with a background in dramatic arts and some success on stage and screen. As well as teaching drama she is the school nurse, responsible for medical checks when new pupils arrive. But there is more to her than meets the eye.
Technician Skeggs
A no nonsense Australian with a jangling tool belt and squeaking basketball boots, Technician Skeggs can fix anything computer related and more besides.
Kalen Ferreira
A young Brazilian GDA operative from the Rio De Janeiro headquarters, Kalen is very experienced and capable. His mother is English and he spent many years living in London.
Professor Carlos Santos
Professor Carlos Santos is head of the Brazilian branch of the GDA and one of the kindest people on the planet. He is also quick with a joke.
Professor Milena Santos
Professor Milena Santos is married to Carlos and keeps him in check when required. She is a highly qualified scientist and GDA operative with a graceful demeaner and effortless style.
