Izzy the Inventor Series by Zanna Davidson

It’s British Science Week and I am celebrating by reading books featuring science, technology and math. What better place to begin than with a magical science series featuring Izzy!

Izzy loves science and believes wholeheartedly in facts and experiments. When she discovers the importance of imagination, her world and perspective changes.

Izzy the Inventor and the Unexpected Unicorn

Izzy’s family have had enough of her failed experiments and broken eggs all over the house. They demand that she play fairies with her sister instead. Storming off to her room, Izzy is surprised to find a fairy waiting to ask for help. Fairyland is doomed as Prince Charming is stuck on the Mountain of Doom.

Izzy and her unexpected gift of a unicorn named Henry must travel to save the prince before sunset. Luckily for them both, Izzy has packed a bag of supplies and proves just how brilliant the combination of imagination and science can be. Her experiments are shared for those wanting to make slime or crystals.

Can she save the prince? Does this change the story of Cinderella?

Izzy the Inventor and the Curse of Doom

Bad Fairy Brenda is upset that she wasn’t invited to the wedding of Cinderella and so places a curse on Fairyland! It is up to Izzy and Henry to return to solve the curse and free Sleeping Beauty!

Packing her trusty bag of science kit and notes, Izzy and Henry must make it snow, erupt a volcano and help Henry to fly! Luckily the rhyming rabbits and a wonderful dragon are there to help as well!

This series is delightful and makes science look very cool! I love the matching of science with fairyland stories. Those widely known stories are such a big part of childhood reading and by adding science and experiments to them, it will get children thinking differently!

I also love that the endings of these stories change so the princess has a bit more power than traditionally known! Will be heading into my library this week to search for Izzy’s next adventure, The Time-Travelling Gnome!
