Graphic Novels!

It’s my birthday weekend so I have decided to relax with a stack of graphic novels! After a long week, these are the ideal reading material!

Secret Agent Mole by James Foley, Published by Scholastic
Filled with hilarious puns and jokes, this brilliant new series will entice plenty of readers aged 7+! With black and white panels and illustrations throughout, there are a lot of details and clever use of wordplay all the way through. Max Mole, Helena Hippo and June Bug are trainee spies and they are being judged on each mission while they try to pass. It doesn’t all go to plan but eventually Max figures a few things out. Whether they pass or not, you will need to read to find out! Clever character names and animals add an extra element of fun. Already looking forward to the next!
Investigators All Tide Up by John Patrick Green, Published by Macmillan
This is, I believe, the 7th in this series, with a further two in the spin-off. When it first launched I didn’t realise just how amazing the response would be. We can’t keep them on the shelves and as soon as one is released there is a waiting list. In this edition, the gang are called to investigate a missing cruise ship! With action, thrills and chills, this is not your regular investigation. Mango and Brash are up for the challenge with their own jokes, misunderstandings and hilarious outcomes! This series goes from strength to strength!
Kitty Question Sinister Sister by Phil Corbett, Published by Simon & Schuster
Another popular and fast growing series is Kitty Quest! This is the third in the series and its two bold monster slayers have been lured to the top of a mountain. With a family reunion and a hungry baddie thrown into the mix, this may be the funniest adventure yet. This series has a fun feel to it with its bright, bold illustrations and layout. I know we get a lot of requests for this series, and children love its silliness, quests and characters. Again this series makes great use of wordplay, character interactions and brilliant villains!
Unicorn Boy by Dave Roman, Published by Hodder Children’s
This arrived today and I was immediately drawn in to this story. This promises to be the start of a brilliant new series about Brian and his newfound magical unicorn powers. Brian’s horn can sparkle and sing as well as lead him to be a hero! When his friend Avery is taken, Brian accepts this new life and goes on a dangerous journey to find and bring them home. The illustrations are excellent and readers will love the supernatural and dark villains encountered on the adventure. Heartwarming and funny, it’s set to be a hit!
Eowulf of Monsters & Middle School by Mike Cavallaro, Published by Macmillan
Eowulf is a descendant of Beowulf, hence the E, her dad is Deowulf, so you can kind of get the picture. E plays role play games with her best friends and then heads deeper into the house to battle mythical creatures with her talking sword Rog! When she tries to make friends with the weird kid, Amadeus, trouble with friendships and from alternate realities begin to cause havoc. Can they work together to save the day? Superb, detailed illustrations and a rich story make this a new favourite. I can see it being incredibly popular!
