Shipwrecked by Jenny Pearson

My word….no one writes a story like Jenny Pearson. While I sit here with tears running down my face, I am also chuckling away at some of the images seared in my mind from this story.

When impulsive Sebastian begs to go on a trip with his two best friends, they don’t quite foresee how much trouble they will get into. When he challenges an older boy to a boat race at night, they don’t envision a life at sea. However, Sebastian finds both a reality.

Fast forward several weeks and our trio are shipwrecked and finding new ways to survive every day. There are moments of fun and certainly funny moments but in actual fact, this is a story of figuring out who you are and who you want to become. Interspersed with humour, is Jenny’s talented knack for sharing vital snippets of life and philosophy.

I would not survive a day on the ocean or on a deserted island and I would be even more unlikely to adopt and name a goat Guiseppe Garibaldi! Just one of the entirely brilliant moments of lighthearted humour.

The three characters are so vastly different and this is another skill of Jenny’s- bringing characters to life. Sebastian, Etienne and Lina have their strengths and over time, they begin to appreciate these rather than be annoyed by each other. They figure out how to work as a team and in moments of true danger, they unite and act together.

Another phenomenal story from the wonderful Jenny Pearson!
