What a remarkable story from master storyteller, Lucy Strange. Faye is sent to Auk Island, after having been told she was wicked and had committed a violent act against her aunt. Faye has amnesia following this event and cannot explain it or herself.
Arriving on the island with another girl named Boudicca, the pair quickly discover this is not a school but a prison for wicked children. They must listen to lectures on morals, do hard labour in the old building and sleep locked in their cells. However, as with many old buildings, this one bears some secrets.
When Faye discovers her cell unlocked one evening, she also discovers a prince, secret passages and plots against the children. Can Faye, one of the smallest in the group be big and brave enough to fight for her life and for her friends?
This book had me hooked, as have all of Lucy’s books. She writes thrilling stories with elements of gothic spookiness and magical fae. On top of the absolutely thrilling story, there are heartwarming connections to animals and trees to be discovered.
Nature meets mystery in Auk Island and Faye is perfectly placed to learn more about herself and her family here!
