Heartseer by Rowan Foxwood

I love debut novels and discovering new authors. Rowan Foxwood has created a story based around a young girl named Anise. She is one who can see daemons and deities. She is one who must keep peace and harmony between them and humans. Her task is difficult since her mother passed away. Her brother is away studying in the capital and her “ guardian” is an onerous man keen to take everything from her for his own greed.

When the threat of being sent away is spoken, Anise knows she has little time before she loses her home. Travelling to the capital won’t be easy but Anise is determined to find her brother. Along the way, she meets Robin, a young musician who wants to play for the High King. They also meet and awaken an old deity named Whin who was in danger of being forgotten.

Their adventure is full of risks, danger and time is against them. They must remember their journey and try to avoid being tricked. If they begin to forget or lose sight of their home, then they will become stuck in one place. With some favours won and tricks avoided, they overcome one problem but can they overcome them all?

Anise is a formidable character, one you will gather to your heart as she tries to do the right thing and save her home! I just fell in love with this entire story.

Without spoiling this story, I can say that It is incredible, imaginative and adventurous. I would re-read it over and over!
