Sar is a phenomal character, one that overcomes adversity to follow her dream of being a dinobeast racer. She was eight when she lost her sight and her dreams seem to have stalled.
When her friends Tenk and Mira give her the opportunity to have a race with them, she finds herself in a dangerous situation when her Dino breaks free of the race course and heads into the desert with her. Without a way to see, Sar was at the mercy of the elements and the beast.
Serendipitously, Sar makes a discovery when she finds out what happens when lightning hits sand. Her hands find small pieces of an object, smoother than rock. When she holds it up, she has clarity and can see.
After being rescued she brings the glass to her friend Clamour who is a creative scientist. They work together and create a pair of goggles for Sar so she can find a way to enroll in school and become a racer. Her dream finds its way back on track.
Sar’a family are supportive but worried and they gather together to help Sar, not through pity but through wonderful as she never let go of her dream. Though the story is about Sar’s dream to be a racer, much of the story features the lives of her family on their farm and the intricate relationships and dangers they face.
