Mallory Vayle and the Curse of Maggoty Skull

I really should have saved this for a dark and stormy night to get in tune with the ambience of the story but a hot sunny morning was all I had. There was no way I could hold off reading this any longer.

Mallory has lost her parents and gained an Aunt with a crumbling old castle in the span of the day we meet her. Standing graveside, her ghostly parents next to her, the reader comes to understand that Mallory is special! She can see and chat to ghosts- this will certainly help and hinder her in this story.

On her first night in Carrion Castle, she is guided to a secret labyrinth beneath the floors and discovers Maggoty Skull! A comical, annoying and over the top personality filling a skull as the person is trapped there for eternity. Mallory is lured to discover more about her necromancy through the ghost napping of her parents.

What follows is a brilliant and spooky adventure for Mallory with her sidekick Maggoty- who is always talking! Aunt Lilith will play her part as well! It’s an incredible story, balanced with humour and spookiness.

The illustrations throughout bring a sense of the macabre to the tale, but humour has its part and it is very cleverly written.
