Oh my giddy aunt this is phenomenal! A proper whodunnit with a cast of characters to rival Agatha Christie! What sets this above a Christie mystery is the exceptional illustrations of said characters at the start of the book- and the fact that Edna is a child and she is an ace detective.
On a family weekend at the ancient family home, Edna discovers her grandfather sporting a narwhal tusk in his chest, she is of course shocked but Edna has a taste for the dark and mysterious so knows in her head and heart that she will get stuck in. Following the instructions in the book about murders that she carries in her pocket she begins to make notes and ear wig on any conversation happening around her!
She and her friend Archie, along with Charles Darwin the tortoise, put together clues and Edna talks through her suspect list. Unfortunately for Edna, the main suspect list is short and her father is high on the list. With ex-detective Mr Badger working the case while they wait for the police, Edna fears she is missing something key…but the pieces just aren’t falling into place.
When things do fall into place, as the reader, you may find yourself perplexed and wondering if you were really paying attention while reading. This is a mystery of epic proportions!
A brilliant cast of characters, a true mystery and an incredible start to a new mystery series! Just how long are we expected to wait for more?
This is an absolute top pick for this year! Much love and thanks to the brilliant team at Hachette for dispatching a copy so soon after my pleading request!
