Ani and Riri are twins but they haven’t seen each other for some time. Since their parents split up, Ani lives with Dad in the UK and Riri lives in California with Mum. When they do get together, they tend to argue and fight.
This summer, Riri will be living with Ani and Dad while Mum works nearby. Off to a tumultuous start, the girls struggle to find their balance together. When a loved one is found dead, Ani begins investigating. She is a “super sleuth” and runs TUSC, an investigative centre. Riri is not welcomed into TUSC easily but over time, the pair find a way to work together.
They discover the murder victim had a wild criminal record, several names and was constantly on the run. Finding the murderer was never going to be easy but they become hyper-focused when their Dad becomes the main suspect.
A race to prove his innocence brings the girls closer together and they begin to respect each other and want to spend time together. Their own personal needs are shared allowing them to understand the other. Ani has ADHD while Riri has OCD and Autism. By sharing these deeper parts of themselves, they find a path to protect and help one another.
This mystery was intriguing, thrilling and fun to read. I was kept guessing along the way and loved how it took a team of children sleuthing to help the police!
The story ends with the hope of more to come from Ani and Riri!
