Lilian Jones is back with her friends and they have decided to start a secret society at Shadowhall. The plan is to meet late in the darkened library to tell ghost stories. During the very first meeting, a prefect interrupts and promises not to give their secret away. She also shares a story….one that will set Lilian and friends searching for the truth.
Some years before, a drama teacher disappeared after having to cancel a production of MacBeth. We all know the major superstitions of putting on this play and when one of the girls breaks her arm, the show is cancelled.
When the girls find a hidden trap door in the school’s prop cupboard, they pull out the box that clearly states, “Do not open” and inside they discover a book- one that was foretold to them in the ghost story.
Inside the book are secrets told by girls across the ages- the book is fuelled by them and is greedy for more. Lilian tests the book with a secret of her own and they wait anxiously to see what the book will do.
As each girl shares a secret, the book becomes greedy and returns to them constantly, even after being thrown in the lake. Can the girls resist the temptation to share their secrets? What happens when one last secret is placed in the book?
Phil Hickes has an unbelievable talent for weaving thrilling stories. As with Aveline, Lilian is a formidable character, one who loves a mystery and her friends. Shadowhall Academy is a creepy old school where mysteries are hidden away from the students until one such as Lilian comes along to disturb them.
A phenomenal sequel to Lilian’s first adventure! I am certainly looking forward to more adventures at Shadowhall Academy.
