The Snowman Code by Simon Stephenson

As we head into Winter, I can only hope for a bit of snow to test the Snowman Code! If you speak to a snowman six times, they are obliged to answer you!

That is what Blessing discovers one March day when she meets Albert Framlington, a 3 out of 10 snowman in her local park. Blessing has been out of school for several months, though she pretends to go for her mum’s sake, although some days her mum wouldn’t even realise. Her mum is always sad and this is severely impacting Blessing but she can’t tell anyone or she might get taken from her mum again.

Albert and Blessing form a lovely bond and Albert explains about ice promises, the snowman code and his own story of lost love. The next few months are spent hunting for Clementine, Albert’s love who he last saw in the 1700’s. Once they find her, Albert will be able to melt and the long long winter will cease. It may be the answer to Blessing’s problems.

An endearing story, with humour and heart. You can’t help but feel a sense of loss as you read but there is hope intermingled, making this a perfect way to spend a cosy afternoon.
