This is a remarkable story that is perfectly illustrated! It is a unique tale on the relationship of the four seasons and the reasons why they can never be together.
Told from King Winter’s perspective, we see him missing his siblings, Summer, Spring and Autumn. Inviting them round for his birthday, they have a lovely time together until the realise the havoc they are playing on the world.

Though they had a truly wonderful day together, it is decided they cannot do it again and while this feels sad, the King is kept happy by the memories of that day.

The illustrations really make this an immersive story and I found myself studying all the small details on each page. I also loved discovering that this story was inspired by an unpublished German author who wrote while interned during the Second World War.
