Picture Book Perfect

Another wonderful collection of books to add to home or school libraries, or as gifts for young readers.

One Goose, Two Moose, Three Raccoon, Four Baboon by Kael Tudor and Nicola Slater, Published by Scholastic
This is a delightful follow up to One Goose, Two Moose, which was a hilarious antic! In this tale, Goose is trying to get everyone into their correct lines but it seems there are plenty of animals sneaking into other rhyming lanes, much to Goose’s dismay! The illustrations are amazing and this is sure to cause a case of the giggles in any reader. The ending is proof of why Goose needs to loosen up a little bit!
Ant Party by Ross Montgomery and Sarah Warburton, Published by Walker Books
This is another top notch story from Ross Montgomery and Sarah Warburton! Andy Ant is having a party, just a quiet one to celebrate his birthday but everyone invites someone else and it soon becomes bigger than Andy can handle. With so many people in his home, he is struggling but then another uninvited guest shows up and Andy proves his courage. The entire party work together to rid the unwanted guest and the party carries on. Fun, colourful and a celebration of friendship!
Danny McGee Drinks the Sea by Andy Stanton and Neal Layton, Published by Faber
This is a hilarious rhyming story of siblings, dares and extraordinary events. This award winning duo have created a story sure to inspire giggles from all ages. Danny and Frannie head to the seaside where Danny drinks the entire sea, much to his sister’s surprise. He then proceed’s to eat pretty well everything else, except one thing- which has a fun twist at the end! Readers will love seeing each page cause more and more havoc as Danny’s appetite grows! Cleverly illustrated and designed, this is a real treat!
The Biggest Breakfast by Richard Jones, Published by Simon & Schuster
A beautiful book about sharing and with a mathematical adventure thrown in for good measure. When one bird gets fed one day, two mice arrive the next and then 4 squirrels and so on, each animal arriving doubles the numbers of the one before. They all have a special way of eating and it would make a perfect book for sharing aloud with young readers. The illustrations and special fold out page are wonderful and amazing to behold!
Jenny Peckles Lays Eggs with Speckles by Rachel Emily and Paul Delaney, Published by Farshore
What begins as a cute book about hens and eggs quickly descends into brilliant chaos as the hens protect those eggs, whether they are spotty, stripey or swirly! Rhyming, funny and ideal for reading aloud- this is sure to be a favourite book for many young readers! It has the same vibe as Hairy McClary with the rhymes and chaos fun that follow! I particularly loved how the reader feels part of the story and chaos. A brilliantly written and designed book.
Bear by Natalia Shaloshvili, Published by Frances Lincoln
This book may resonate very strongly with those young readers just learning to share! When Bear sits with all his favourite things, he is quite happy and content. He is soon joined by friends who also like his favourite things and ask for them. Bear thinks, but says ok to the requests. With each request, his temper flares until he can hold it no longer. His friends quickly go. If only Bear could have said what he thought…a valuable lesson for many of us. Charming illustrations and a simple collection of favourite items, this will make a lot of sense!
