This is an incredible book with a truly dastardly villain. Merriweather Pryce is the main character, and she is living in a period of history that I know little about. It is 1645 and her town is under siege again. The battle between the Roundheads and the Royalists is a dangerous and she is worried about what her stepmother will do while her father is away fighting.
This book does not shy away from the horrors of war and the reader will find themselves transported to the Civil War by the descriptions throughout the book- an informative and impressive assault on the senses.
Merriweather will find her mission to find her father interrupted by capture and she then, not only needs to escape and discover the fate of her father but also make it home to save all she has ever known. The courage and loyalty of Merriweather makes her an admirable and relatable heroine and I think readers will truly lose themselves in this adventure.
As part of this blog tour, I am sharing some photos sent by Ally Sherrick that will definitely help to bring this time period to life. Historical re-enactments can really help you to visualise the time and gain greater understanding of what it was to live in a different time.
