Dreamslinger by Graci Kim

This is an exceptional story- imaginative and powerful and one that will stay with long after you have closed the book.

Aria Loveridge is growing up in Texas with the power to harness dreams. She is being taught to condition herself to control these powers- “restrain, contain, maintain” these outbursts that are at their most powerful after a nights sleep.

Her father is leading a movement to protect dreamslingers and allow them to have a normal life. There are greater powers and battles at work amidst Aria’s day to day life. When she is given the opportunity to act as a spy in the royal academy of dreamslingers, she takes it and travels to Korea to take part in a series of trials.

As she learns more about this hidden world and her own skills, she finds herself caught in a battle within. Each trial proves to be difficult in many ways and Aria relies upon her strengths and determination to pass each one. While she makes some enemies within the school, she also forms strong bonds with others and it is these she relies heavily upon as she prepares for the last trial, which comes amidst some incredible family secrets being shared.

Finding herself enjoying discovering what she can do, she knows it is in direct opposition to the work her father has been leading. She will make some tough decisions throughout her time in Korea.

It’s a fantastic story and I was wishing I could have my own dreampanion to accompany me in hard times. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure and hope to see more from this author.
