Ajay and the Red-Winged Prince by Ewa Jozefkowicz

Ajay is a member of the Woodland Explorer’s Club with several of his best friends and school mates. They all share a love of woodlands, wildlife and protecting nature.

This is the third book in the series, each one focusing on one of the club members. We first met the group in Benji’s story and then Shyla’s and now we learn more about Ajay. As you read each story, you get a true sense of just how great these children are and how passionate they are about nature. Their friendship and support of each rings through each book as well.

Ajay is a bird lover and discovers a map of their beloved woodland from over 600 years ago when it was part of a larger space. His keen sense of research allows him to discover the Red-Winged Prince, another nature lover who protected the wildlife centuries ago.

Ajay wants to be brave like the prince and stop people from leaving their litter around, as he has discovered birds are making their nests from the litter but he will need to be bold and brave. His research skills and kind, caring nature also help him to stand up for what he believes.

This is a magical series, highlighting the value of caring for nature, the courage it takes to do what you believe and the importance of friends. I am already keen to dive in to the next one- but who will the focus be on next time?

With facts and fiction blended perfectly, this is an ideal series for young readers!
