Picture Book Perfect

There are so many amazing picture books out there for reading and sharing! This is just a small collection to entice you with!

Fox and the Mystery Letter by Alex G Griffiths, Published by Quarto
This is such a charming and enchanting story. While it is a picture book with an adventure, there is a subtle maturity to the story. As Fox is sent on a journey, he keeps remembering someone important but the reader is left wondering who and what. This is a well planned adventure for Fox, someone clearly wants him to enjoy it! The illustrations are charming and mysterious and lead the reader on a wonderful journey. I found this to be a wonderful story and it is one that has so many lovely details.
The Glass Heart, A tale of three princesses by Sally Gardner, Published by Zephyr
A beautiful story of princesses, love and caring for special things. It is also a stunning book filled with incredible illustrations that draw the reader in and makes them feel a true part of the story. Originally published in 2001, it is newly published for a new generation of reader. It’s a special generational story about three princesses with glass hearts and their journey through life and love. One heart breaks, one is cracked and one remains whole and the wise words holding it together are that “something that is broken and mended often lasts longer than something new”.
Pencils’s Best Story Ever by Carly Gledhill, Published by Post Wave
This is the ideal story to share with young readers, especially ones who wish to write their own adventure. It also has a random and unique set of characters to challenge Pencil and the way the story is going, not wanting to get squished, eaten or lost in a dark forest. It’s funny and random, and will certainly inspire future storytellers. The illustrations are bright and fun, and show the story within a story and all the chaos that comes from characters who go off script! I have no doubt this will be a firm favourite!
Bessie’s Bees by George Kirk and Ana Gómez, Published by Templar Books
Bessie has a head full of bees and she loves them and spending time with her Granny. When Bessie tries nursery for the first time, she and her bees struggle! They have so much energy and it all comes out wrong making Bessie feel overwhelmed. When Granny comes back, she tries to help Bessie understand her bees so she can have a better day at nursery! A charming and brightly coloured view on ADHD- it will help so many children and families to understand neuro-diversity!
Come Back, Gosling by Anne Booth and David Litchfield, Published by Templar Books
This dynamic duo have such a powerful series of books and so it was a delight to meet gosling and a little girl who loves gosling so much. Their favourite thing is to visit the library and borrow exciting books until one day, they borrow a book that upsets the girl. Gosling is keen to read the book and as changes happen, discovers more about their life. It’s a beautifully illustrated story of love and trust! It’s also about the wonderful longevity of friendship. Sure to be a fan favourite!
The Great Pollination Investigation and how we get food from flowers by Deborah Hocking, Published by Templar Books
I was immediately drawn to the front cover of this book and the promise of pop up’s and flaps to use as well. This enchanting and beautiful book will guide young readers through pollination, which can be a complicated subject. With so many detailed illustrations and bite sized bits of information this will help readers understand how we get food from nature. I always love a book with experiments and this has a great one to try! An ideal book for future gardeners! Cleverly designed for small hands to explore, this is sure to delight readers!
