The Last Bard by Maz Evans

Fans of Maz Evans will absolutely rejoice when they discover this story in September! For new readers of Maz Evans, it will set them on a path of joyous discovery!

I have yet to read a book of hers that isn’t heartfelt, funny and filled with incredible characters. In this new standalone story, we meet Will and his Mum, Mary, as they deal with some sensitive issues surrounding them.

Will’s father has passed away and due to a lack of money, they now live with Mary’s brother Claude and his son, Jon. It is not a harmonious household and when they leave to sort Will’s grandfather’s house, he begins to see his Mum relax and unwind. At Arden Heights, Will meets Ani and together they try to save the block of flats.

Each is dealing with loss, worry about their families and their homes but their friendship is amazing and the families they touch while trying to help is wonderful. They also have a little help from Juliet, Puck, Yorick and Lady MacBeth….you will need to read to discover how.

An absolute smash hit and I adore the courage and fight that Will discovers in himself. I devoured it as I expected and had tears and laughter mixing together as I shut the book. There are some huge issues affecting both Ani and Will and it is all told with such sensitivity and poignancy, it really highlights how amazing these children are.
