Welcome to the World of Seven Jones, a thirteen year old student at Riverside Academy. During a math lesson one afternoon, Seven glances out the window and spots the school caretaker stumbling across the field.
Dropping his keys and mouthing, “Shh”, to Seven, he disappears and is reported missing over the weekend. The news at school throughout the next week is sad and mysterious, prompting Seven to really get stuck into figuring things out.
The police are at school and Seven is keeping huge secrets from friends and staff. Seven’s mam is dealing with alcoholism and this is severely impacting family life. Seven has also neglected to tell anyone that the caretaker’s keys have been found!
Seven uses the keys to investigate the disappearance of Mr O and uncovers much more than expected!
This is a brilliant story, led by a distracted detective but it also shines a light on alcohol dependency, mental health and wider impacts on children. Seven is a brilliant character, one who may be distracted but shows resilience, determination and seeks the truth no matter what the cost.
I spent a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon in the company of Seven, Livi, Jas and Millie- best friends through it all. A great mystery and plenty of plot twists and turns.
