You’ve Got this Little Pangolin by Tolá Okogwu

It’s my stop on the blog tour for this adorable and heartwarming story from brilliant storyteller, Tolá Okogwu.

The race to grow up and try new things is something many children find themselves doing. Whether imitating family and friends or having a fierce independent spirit, children are desperate to do more.

And so is the case of the beautiful pangolin, Kúye, in this story. Mama wants to take time to teach her pangopup the ways of being a pangolin but Kúye is keen to do it alone.

When climbing goes a bit wrong and digging a bit too energetic, Kúye finds his frustration growing at the difference between him and his mama.

The trickiest part of being a pangolin is rolling into a ball to protect against danger and Kúye is especially keen to get this right all by himself. What he learns finally is that new skills take time, patience and support from his mama!

This is such a heartfelt story and perfect for reading with toddlers and those beginning school who need a confidence boost and the understanding that we all learn at different times and paces. The illustrations by Shirley Hottier are divine, colourful and full of life.

The mama and pangopup relationship is adorable and I love that this story features pangolins as they are rarely found in stories and as an animal not native to the UK, I believe this will stem a fascination in these creatures and their unique abilities to survive.
