Big Ideas from Literature by The School of Life, Anna Doherty and Kalee Jackson, Published by The School of Life
I always love books about books and this is a joyous walk through literature and reading. This book aims to look at the deeper questions around why we read and what should we be learning from the books we read. With great literature mentioned and alluded to throughout the book, along with dynamic illustrations, this is an absolute joy to read and browse. It has a playful but important vibe throughout and I know it will be one I return to time and again to enjoy.
Footprint by Phil Cummings and Sally Soweol Han, Published by Allen & Unwin
Part meditative and part informative, this quiet and beautiful book would be a wonderful story to read aloud to a class of children. It promotes nature, walking and the simple act of breathing deeply. In the busyness of life, sometimes a walk is the perfect antidote. Written in simple rhyming verse and with calming illustrations throughout, this is a wonderful story to share. I love that the pages are just so full of details and colour, drawing the reader in to this world.

This book is brilliant- funny, engaging and filled with fantastic illustrations. It has a graphic novel feel to it which will appeal to a lot of readers. We learn so much about animals from scientists and observations but this books delves deeper into the animals and those who study them in-depth. I was completely engrossed while reading this and loved sharing some of these facts with my children. I think its format will really appeal to readers!
