So many books…so little time! At least until the weekend and then I spend ages lost in the pages of these stories! I love the breadth of a picture book- from a funny story to important messages, diverse characters and families, or animals leading the way…so much to love!
What About Me? said the Flea by Lily Murray, Illustrated by Richard Merritt, Published by Buster Books
Sophia sits to begin writing a story and plenty of characters all vie for the starring role, from unicorns and bears to lions and llamas. All try to sell themselves but one small voice is just not getting heard. As the animals pile up, one arrival frightens them all so much that a tiny splat takes place causing Sophia to stop and listen carefully! A joyous tale full of bright and boldly illustrated characters, large and small! Readers with wild imaginations will revel in the fun of this story, and may be inspired to pick up a pen and write their own story!
The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming, Illustrated by Nicola Slater, Published by Scholastic
Autumn has come to Squirrel’s tree and he is enjoying the colours of the leaves until he notices that one is missing. This entirely brilliant story had me chuckling and smiling on every page. Squirrel is highly anxious about the missing leaves and so calls on friend Bird. Bird seems grounded and supportive, helping Squirrel to calm down and understand the change in seasons. Though Bird is supportive, it seems as though Squirrel has forgotten Autumn from the previous year! Enchanting and beautiful illustrations create such a heartfelt story full of joy and humour!
The Greatest ShowPenguin written and Illustrated by Lucy Freegard, Published by Pavilion
An utterly enchanting story of being true to yourself and following your heart. Poppy’s family are performers and she shows great promise in all the acts. Poppy’s fears do not lie within the performances, but with telling her family about what she feels and wants. Upon a break to relax and rest, Poppy begins to form a brilliant idea about how she can still be part of the family business while being true to her own wishes and dreams. A clever penguin and an adorable story, perfect for inspiring young readers to follow their hearts and be brave to share these with family and friends. Wonderful illustrations throughout!
SuperTato Bubbly Troubly by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet, Published by Simon & Schuster
This dynamic duo have created another fantastically funny SuperTato adventure! These books set children off giggling and rooting for the veggies to take on the Evil Pea time and time again. During their weekly bath, the veggies are having fun playing with bubbles until a bottle of Troubly Bubbles are thrown in…these bubbles cause chaos and slippery mayhem until SuperTato and Mystic Mango offer advice. Can the veggies find the solution to the bubbly troubly? Colourful and vibrant illustrations are par for the course with this series and these books fly off the library shelves.
The Perfect Fit, written and Illustrated by Naomi and James Jones, Published by Oxford University Press
A story inspired by experiences as a parent, this story will resonate with families everywhere. We send our children to school with high hopes of finding friends and it can be heart wrenching when they come home upset with stories of not fitting in. Triangle has fun playing with the other shapes but always feels different so sets off on a journey to find more triangles! However, finding more triangles isn’t the end of the story. A wonderfully inventive tale on fitting in, learning shapes and acceptance! Beautiful illustrations and a positive message will have children reaching for this time and time again!

I read constantly and have more books than bookshelves, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I celebrate reading every day at work and at home with my two children, aged 11 and 9.
I sit on the National Executive Committee for the Federation of Children’s Book Groups and run an OU/UKLA Teachers as Readers group!
