I am so pleased to see that this is forming the beginning of a new series. Lorraine Gregory has a vivid imagination and she takes readers along for a pretty far out adventure. Space, cool creatures and technology will appeal to so many readers and they will lap up the fun with Danny, Modge and Inaaya.
Danny’s grandad is caretaker of the estate they live on but when he falls seriously ill, he asks Danny to take care of them. Uncertain what Grandad means, Danny and Modge head over to the office to see what jobs might need doing. When they stumble into a locker, they are surprised to land in an office labelled IDLPO.
Learning this is an Interdimensional Lost Property Office, the trio must learn quickly what to do. The net of lost items is bulging and they must send things back to where they belong, including strange creatures.
Bring on a terrifying set of twins who smile just a tad too big, a hub looking to ease the work of the caretakers and three children who know something isn’t quite right and you have this smashing adventure.
Loaded into the fun is the relationships that need some sorting as well. Modge and Inaaya are both hiding something from Danny but he is rather focused on his own issues to notice. How they deal with these revelations is brilliant and entirely relatable for young readers. Danny’s relationship with his grandad is lovely and Danny knows he needs to make him proud by doing all he can while he recovers.
I really loved this story and am looking forward to seeing a finished copy as well as diving into another out of this world adventure!
