Nosy Crow make some of the most beautiful proofs. When Alice Eclair was first announced, the proof was pretty pink, then the second was a beautiful blue and now, with a third proof- this one is glamorously green. Like a perfectly packaged trio of delicious macarons!
Alice Eclair continues to work tirelessly in Vive Comme L’Eclair, her patisserie with her mother. She also remains a spy working for the French resistance to ensure the safety of France and her people. In this adventure, Alice is paired with a rather snooty young man, Pierre. He is also a spy but a bit of an arrogant one. When they are both sent to the Palace of Versailles on the trail of someone leaking valuable locations of operatives, they find themselves on the set of a glamorous film about Marie Antoinette.
Alice is ever professional but when several attempts on her life are taken, she is shaken and must recover. While she bakes and plans, her thoughts swirl around until she believes she has it all figured out. It wouldn’t be much of a mystery if she figured it out that quickly so of course, Sarah Todd Taylor has us believing one thing while continuing to build the plot line.
I love Alice and her dedication to being a spy. She has bold ideas, plenty of courage and is endlessly talented in the kitchen as well. This is an entirely delightful series and I do hope for more, as we still need Alice to confront her double crossing Uncle Robert!
