Having been in a bit of a reading slump before Christmas I went looking for something different to read, a book that would intrigue me with a bit of a mystery, a sense of adventure and perhaps magic!
I found all those things within Tamsin Mori’s latest book, Gargoyles, Guardians of the Source.
When Callen and his parents move into his Nan’s old crumbling mansion, he is unhappy and slightly scared of the stone statues along the house. When, on his first night, one comes alive, Callen is both terrified and intrigued. Why did it take something out of the old journal he found? What does it mean to be a guardian?
Callen’s dad is unwilling to speak about things from his past but Callen knows there are secrets being kept. Meeting some new friends, Callen begins to piece things together around the creatures and magic of his new home.
Of course, things are not simple and there are increasing dangers to the secrets Callen unfolds. However, he finds his honesty and courage and begins to take brave, bold steps to put things right for the family, gargoyles and dreamers.
Fantastically imagined, this is a brilliant armchair adventure, though my knuckles were white as though holding a sword to defend against ghasts. Reading this was an adventure and I can only hope this is the start of a new series. I am especially keen to meet more of Zariel’s gargoyle mates.
This is one to watch in 2024! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Love the sound of this.
