Stink likes pink and he likes trucks but there are no pink trucks to be found! What a conundrum for Stink and his friends.
Apparently there are colour rules- certain things are blue, green or pink but trucks are black, blue, red or white- never pink! I love the horror on his face as Stink comes to learn these colour rules. Children have this innate ability to find injustice in the world and for Stink it begins and ends with its lack of pink trucks.
Armed with plenty of pink pieces, Stink and his sister construct something that lives up to Stink’s hopes. A pink truck! In a grand reveal, his friends are impressed.
This is a fantastic book that challenges the stereotypes we consciously and unconsciously attribute to toys. Trucks are for boys, therefore should be blue and black- this is a long held belief for toy manufacturers.
A book like this will help children and their grown ups make positive changes and follow the movement that says, Let Toys be Toys! pink is for boys too!
Rhyming, brilliant illustrations and a diverse group of friends makes this an excellent addition to any bookshelf!
Love books that challenge stereotypes especially gender ones. Pink Trucks sounds brilliant.
