Picture Book Perfect

Since moving house, I have been struggling to find time to blog but this weekend, I set time aside to read, read, and read some more. I started with these as my eyes were drawn to the illustrations. Once I dove in though, it was easy to see why they would be so popular!

Always Carry Me with You by Hervé Éparvier and Fred Benaglia, Published by Ivy Kids
An incredibly beautiful story about love, courage and feeling supported.
We start this story learning about the simple beauty and usefulness of a stone. Stones can be all shapes, sizes and structures. From creating buildings, statues and ski slopes to being small pebbles on the beach. Stones are wonderful and if you find the perfect one, it can sit in your pocket as a reminder of love.
Rich in colour and illustrations, this is a feast for the eyes.
and heart. With a brilliant vintage feel to the story, it has such a heartwarming message. Would be amazing to read ahead of school starting in September.
No. 5 Bubblegum Street by Mikotaj Pa and Gosia Herba, Published by Greystone Kids
Another book with vintage, colourful and bold illustrations. With so many details on each page and in each apartment, readers will find themselves reading this book for a long time. We begin meeting everyone in the building around 5pm. It’s an eclectic group of creatures and characters that we meet, from the spider orchestra to the plant loving panther and sculpting dog!
Colourful, fun and engaging, this is such a wonderful delve into a community. When they end their evening at a rooftop party, it is a true celebration of community. This building exudes peace and respect, it’s what we should all aim for!
Pearl and her Bunch by Momoko Abe, Published by Orchard Books
What an enchanting and delightful tale of families! Pearl discovers something about herself in the beginning of this tale. Pearl is a pea but loves her bunch of family grapes. Her views and understanding of families changes as she visits her friend Carlos and they help a small round fruit to find their family. The constant surprises in family make ups make Pearl extra thankful for her bunch! The entire story is generous in love, heart and colourful illustrations. Momoko Abe is an incredible talent and this is the loveliest story, a celebration of families!
Frida the Rock-and-Roll Moth by Kim Hillyard, Published by Puffin Books
A charming and delightful tale on the importance of being true to yourself. Frida loves her pointy boots, purple guitar and singing loudly but she is incredibly shy and intimidated by other rock and roll moths around the Bright Light. When she decides to change her look and style, it doesn’t feel quite right either. When her Aunt Edna gives her a boost of confidence, Frida tries again and to her surprise, things feel right and she shines as bright as she can! Perfect for boosting the confidence of readers and helping them to know their own self worth!
