WitchSpark by Dominique Valente

I absolutely adored Dominique’s first series, Starfell! I loved the sense of magic, the seemingly normal girls who had powers and the family and friendships throughout.

When I discovered a new series was in the works, I knew I would love it. I was not wrong. I may even love it more than Starfell.

There is a sentient house named Huswyvern, a dragon butler named Arthur and two girls with varying degrees of magic who must come together to seal their fates.

Eglantine lives in Huswyvern but is awakened when her father is tricked into giving the house to Uncle Lichen for a military school. Eglantine fights back and refuses as she is the actual heir. Her father is kidnapped and Eglantine must wake up her magic to find the answers she needs to save them all

Princess Victoria is in a different situation. Royals are forbidden to have magic but somehow she is capable of freezing time and people. She must hide her magic though it seems to grow stronger.

Each girl is on a journey of discovery, one that will lead them to each other. It’s an absolutely wonderful book- heartwarming relationships, a sense of justice and a determination to ensure magic is not just for men, the rich or the privileged.

The promise of the next book is all I need to keep me going! I would happily sign my name to the pledge from Miss Hegotty!
