What a fantastic start to a new detective series, this one aimed at slightly younger readers.
Felix and Isaac are best friends and spend much of their time together, either at Felix’s parent’s Chinese takeaway or Isaac’s house. One evening during a rush at the takeaway, the family’s beloved money tree plant gets knocked to the ground. Believing it to be back luck, Felix and Isaac begin looking into the crime!
Repotting the plant, the boys find an old coin with Chinese characters around it and begin asking around about it. They ask Mr Tsui, who tells them about an old box linked to a visit from Li Hung Chang, a Chinese diplomat from the 1800’s.
Felix’s cousin Nina also gets involved though the boys call her “know it all Nina”. She does lead them to some new information that proves useful to the case.
As the clues mount up, the trio find themselves in a bit trouble with their families. Can they solve the mystery?
An absolutely cracking mystery with a cast of characters who will warm your heart and get you curious about everything around you. Their friendship is brilliant and even Nina will find her place in the new group.
What’s next for The Lucky House Detective Agency? Plenty more mysteries I imagine!
