The Great Green Island by Becky Colvin, Published by Macmillan
What an extraordinary story, filled with adventure, surprise and the joy to be found when you stop! Ali is an explorer of her small island and is keen to share her discoveries with those in her town but they are always too busy! When the fish disappear one day, Ali and her Dad head out for an adventure. What they discover is an incredible secret and one that allows them time together and a future opportunity to explore other islands. Wonderfully illustrated to inspire adventure!
Go Go Dodo by Huw Lewis Jones and Fred Blunt, Published by Little Tiger
Delightful and colourful, this book is reminiscent of Rosie’s Walk. As Dodo takes a relaxing stroll through the jungle, there are events taking place behind him that he is blissfully unaware of. Poor Tiger is having a rougher day as he follows Dodo. Readers can follow along the story and guess what might happen next until the unexpected surprise at the end. It’s charming and funny, and one that is guaranteed to be a firm favourite.
Nelly the Very Different Bird by Alex Mcdonald, Published by Frances Lincoln
Nelly wants to fly and go with the other birds but she has to do things a bit differently and that is ok because she learns new things and discovers a lot about herself in the process. When Nelly finds another bird who can’t fly, she shares her discoveries and finds out how much fun it is with a friend. Such a lovely story to share with young readers to help them find their confidence and make discoveries about themselves. Beautiful illustrations and a joy to read.
The Sun Thief by Alice Hemming and Nicola Slater, Published by Scholastic
Squirrel is back and discovering more about the world around him and how the seasons change and the times of day are affected. He really is a delightful character and has so much to learn but as he learns, so does the reader. Bird is endlessly patient with Squirrel and explains things as easily as possible. It’s a brilliant series and I love sharing these with children. It’s laugh out loud funny and a perfect bedtime read aloud!
The Scardiest Bear by Frances Stickley and Alice McKinley, Published by Simon & Schuster
This is a joy of a story and one set to reassure little readers that it’s ok to be afraid sometimes. Bear is scared of everything but best friend Hare is there to support and reassure Bear through it all. When Bear needs some alone time, Hare understands but when Hare needs help, Bear finds strength to come help. Bear still finds some things scary but Hare is there to help. A beautiful story that is heartwarming and joyous! Such lovely illustrations as well.
