Murder at Christmas arrived on Thursday and it is Friday and I am finished! It’s a brilliantly planned mystery from master mystery writer, Fleur Hitchcock!
From the beautiful cover, all shiny and wintery, through to the ending, this is a delightful book to read and share. Grace has been at boarding school in England while her diplomat mother, father and little brother have moved to Australia. Feeling ridiculously “family-sick”, she is so excited to spend Christmas with them.
They are staying at their Aunt’t hotel and loving being together. When their mum goes to visit their Gran, who lives in residential care nearby, she doesn’t return. As the hours pass, Grace and Billy begin to worry. Their aunt Mollie isn’t around either so they are on their own.
As the days tick by, Grace really begins to suspect the worst and even Mollie isn’t helping, acting suspiciously herself. Working with their new friends, Olive and Doug, Grace and Billy discover the truth behind their mother’s disappearance and make plans to get her back.
Thoroughly exciting and well planned, this mystery is perfect for young super-sleuths who like mystery with their mince pie! Grace and Billy are fantastic characters and really pull together to figure the mystery out. They are so much braver and determined than I would be in the same situation.
As with Fleur’s other books, this one will transport you and make you feel a part of the story. It would make a brilliant Christmas gift!
Lovely review Erin. Like you I raced through this book, Fleur’s writing is so compelling.😊
