This may be my favourite book this year! It’s a perfect blend of fantasy, murder mystery and romance! Equally shared and dispersed throughout the story, these three genres are brought together in such a well written and superbly plotted story, I could not put it down.
Vesper is an intriguing character from the outset- determined, intelligent and fierce. She meets her match in Maximilian Kite, a renowned member of high society. They seem to test each other and try each other’s patience but there may be a spark there that neither anticipate.
When an offer to save her home and job are presented, Vesper feels determined to take the opportunity and in the process, solve a murder and ensure Kite is not found guilty of the crime!
It’s got a wealth of characters that are exceptionally written and clever plot twists throughout that really keep you guessing. It has the feel of a 1950’s classic with a gang of bullies causing problems on the streets, a true divide between working class and the elite and the dogged reporter hunting down the clues and the truth!
It also has some impressive twists!
I have a solid book hangover now but this is a book I would happily read over and over again.
