It’s full on spooky season- from the cooler weather to pumpkins in all the shops! Not to mention the planning of Halloween costumes!
Colin’s Monster by Holly Swain, published by FarShore
This is the third book in the series and each one is as brilliant as the one before! Colin and Duck are off investigating a strange noise in the castle, finding some unknown rooms and surprises! When they find the noise in the dungeon it isn’t what they expected! I wonder if children reading this will guess what is hiding in the dungeon! This series is riotously funny and a perfect, gentle story for the spooky season!
Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds and Peter Brown, published by Simon & Schuster
This is a hilarious story to share with young readers! You believe one side of the story until you are presented with the other! Jasper loves carrots and eats them morning, noon and night- stealing them from the local field. Jasper begins seeing “creepy carrots” everywhere, believing them to be after him. He hatches a plan to keep the carrots away but what do the carrots think?! Another fantastically funny book from this creative duo!
Supertato Trick or Treat by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet, published by Simon & Schuster
Supertato is a legendary character with many amazing stories to share! This is best shared in small groups or at bedtime as there are plenty of lift the flaps to engage with. Join the veggies as they prepare for “fright-time” at the supermarket. With clever costumes they have fun together until they reach the frozen aisle where “you know who” hides but where is Evil Pea tonight? You will need to grab a copy to find out! Deliciously spooky and fun to read!
Spookicorn by Beach, published by Simon & Schuster
More zany than scary, this colourful and bold picture book will certainly be a favourite! Poopicorn is no ordinary unicorn- she has the magical power to poop all her thoughts! When she accidentally thinks of a witch, the spookiness gets slightly out of control. More and more monsters and creatures appear and Poopicorn needs to make a plan. It’s delightfully chaotic and so much fun to read aloud as it all rhymes perfectly!
The Worst Thing that could possibly happen by Guy Bass and David Roberts, published by Little Tiger
This spooky and unique book is one I keep hearing about and I couldn’t wait to dive in. Filled with stunning and intricate illustrations, it is a collection of stories, poems, comics that are sure to keep readers on their toes! It’s dark, thought-provoking and ever so slightly unsettling a true gem for this spooky season. Readers will be absolutely delighted and slightly nervous to turn each page to see “what could possibly go wrong”.
