Twitter is awash with our lovely and kind authors and illustrators traipsing up and down the country inspiring readers and a love of books! We couldn’t do it without them!
A huge part of the celebrations that take place all over the UK are the World Book Day books. It is always exciting when the titles and team behind them are announced. This year was full of incredibly popular titles and characters, and I love the books we have to choose from.
Supertato, Kid Normal, Dogman, Hazel and Daisy and Evie…all famous book characters and ones we can’t have enough of in the school library. These characters are borrowed time and time again. All of these books, plus the ones featuring tomorrow, will be added to the school library and I can promise they will be popular.

Books are Rubbish by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. All the veggies are quietly reading before bed until Evil Pea decides to interrupt them and cause trouble. All because he doesn’t like books. It may not be Supertato to the rescue but “Resourceful readers” instead! Brilliantly funny!
Bing’s Splashy Story. Bing Bunny is a television favourite with our very youngest of readers, so this book will be quite popular. Bing is taking a bath and wants to read his book but Flop keeps it safely away from the water. When Bing is getting dry, he accidentally knocks the book into the bathtub and it needs to dry too. A great lesson learned by all.
Dogman by Dav Pilkey will be another to fly off the displays! Plenty of children love this series and with three stories in this book they will be spoiled. Dogman is solving crimes and hilarious adventures are to sure to follow wherever he goes. Short, sweet and funny.
Evie in the Jungle by Matt Haig and Emily Gravett. Evie is back with her talent for hearing what animals think and speaking to them with her mind. This time she is in the rainforest and must really test her powers. A truly lovely story with stunning illustrations, especially a gorgeous one of Evie and the jaguar. Evie is a delightful character and one I would happily read more adventures from.
Kid Normal and the Loudest Library by Greg James and Chris Smith, Illustrated by Erica Salcedo. Strange, loud events are happening in the library and the librarian has disappeared. Murph and his friends must figure this one out. We especially liked the schedule of loud events, such as clay pigeon shooting, shouting club and cow choir. Totally in tune with the Kid Normal series, this is a brilliant short story featuring the Super Zeroes and Murph! With the underlying message being, “You don’t need superpowers to be a hero!”
The Case of the Drowned Pearl by Robin Stevens is a brilliant addition to the line up, especially with the announcement that the series is coming to an end. This short story has all the elements of the mysteries that Daisy and Hazel so expertly solve. Short enough to be read in one sitting, I can promise you won’t be disappointed with your visit to the Wells and Wong Detective Society.
