This is a beautiful story of finding your feet in the world, as it is ever changing around you. Told with a dual narrative between Ari and Ella, you come to understand their unique views on starting at a new school and discovering a huge secret.
When Ari, starting in Year 7 and Ella, starting in Year 9 meet at choir, they chat and begin forming a friendship. Over time, they discover that they are sisters by birth and their adoptive parents are worried about their reactions. Ari, the bolder and more impulsive sister, is happy to shout from the rooftops. Ella, more quiet and reserved, needs more time to understand and adapt.
From one summer holiday to the next, we follow the girls as they navigate a new school and the commitment needed for their choir. We also get to see them navigate some of the challenges life throws their way- coming out, an ill grandparent and trouble at school.
It’s such a lovely story of finding family and friendship. Ella and Ari are so different but it is heartwarming to see them begin to actually act like sisters towards the end!
