Many of us are familiar with Barrington Stoke books and the high quality of the story and authors they commission to write for them. I also know that many of us are big fans of Lucy Strange and her atmospheric tales. So this should be the perfect pairing!
Murder on a Midsummer Night has the classic feels of a Manor House mystery intermingled with a bit of Shakespeare and faerie stories! Rose and Bram live in a cottage on the estate of Sir Percy. On the evening of his summer party, the siblings are helping out by lighting lanterns, tasting the food and mingling with guests. Bram is keen to see the Crow King so disappears into the maze to film it.
Rose is distracted by a murder and investigation at the summer party. The local police are keen for Rose to help! The man in the wolf’s costume is not a popular guest at the party and there is plenty of motive, but are the means and opportunity? Which guest really disliked the man?
With plenty of suspects, Rose and the police must interview guests and determine who has the best reason for murder. In true Barrington Stoke style, the book is short and accessible, ideal for mystery enthusiasts and for those that want a satisfying murder mystery!
Brilliant characters and I hope this could be the start of a series! I would happily sit and read dozens of mysteries featuring Rose, Bram and their new friend, Krish!
