This brilliant month of celebrating non-fiction was started by The Federation of Children’s Book Groups many years ago! The theme this year is “Reading is an Adventure”! This theme links perfectly with the tagline for National Year of Reading- “Whatever you’re into, read into it!”
With that in mind, I have a series of posts ready for the month celebrating some amazing non-fiction titles for young readers!
First up are the first two books in a new series from Words & Pictures!
Don’t call me a Fish by Charlotte Guillain and Sally Agar
This has a narrative feel to it but it is also filled with stacks of facts suitable for younger readers. It sets the record straight about what a fish actually is and what other creatures are called. The illustrations are dynamic and vibrant, inviting the reader to swim along with Ari and Turtle as they discover the amazing life in the ocean.
Don’t call me a Star by Charlotte Guillain and Sally Agar
In this book, we follow Ted and Stella into space as they discover planets, stars, meteors and comets. They help readers understand all that adornes the night sky, even though we can’t see it all sometimes. Filled with larger print text and exciting, colourful illustrations, this is sure to delight future astronomers.
Both of these books are amazing and really great for youger readers discovering the vast world around them! I look forward to seeing what comes next in the series.
I am a primary school teacher, turned librarian. I am Children’s Librarian for Suffolk Libraries, a job I adore!
I read constantly and have more books than bookshelves, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I celebrate reading every day at work I am currently Vice Chair on the National Executive Committee for the Federation of Children’s Book Groups!
